barefoot sauvigon 129x300 Barefoot Sauvignon Blanc Tonight we’re going back to the Sauvignon Blanc. I really enjoyed this variety so It’s tome to try another. This is a VERY inexpensive wine at $6.99. I tried a Barefoot Moscato last weekend and it was pretty good so I figure what the hell!

The aroma is strongly alcohol, maybe some pineapple and green apple in there a bit of cat piss maybe?. Very light color.

First sip: This is a very light wine not alot of body to it; lots of alcohol flavor, maybe a bit of tropical fruit, but it’s hard to pin down. It’s not up to the Arona Sauvignon Blanc but I’ll give it a chance…

Drinking it a bit and I would have to say it’s okay, but I can’t say I’m all that impressed with it. There really isn’t any complexity to it, nothing to really think about and it doesn’t seem to improve much.

After the first glass, I hate to say it but in this case you really get what you pay for. It’s a thin wine, not alot going on with it, it doesn’t smell all that great and really it’s just cheap wine. I’ll still finish the bottle of course… just to really give it a chance icon wink Barefoot Sauvignon Blanc

Well… I have to stick to my guns on this one. This wine sucks. It’s cheap, It smells cheap and it tastes cheap. Sure, you’ll get a buzz but anything with alcohol will do that for you. I honestly cannot recommend this wine. Move along if you see it on a shelf.

This wine has totally left me unsatisfied. After a glass of this I would either move on to Gin and Dubonnet or beer. Ugh! I can’t speak for the quality of other barefoot wines, except the Moscato is quite good. Avoid this wine.

Back from another hiatus

Hello all! <shame>It has been a while since I last posted </shame> Well, I’ve been busy with these damn allergies. Nothing like being a congested mess to kick off the summer, kind of kills them mood for drinking wine (which is funny since being sick is when you would most want to be drunk to fahgeddaboudit). Nonetheless I am back and ready to get elegantly wasted for the good of the community. Tonight I am going back to ye olde Sauvignon Blanc. Man I really loved that Arona Sauvignon Blanc I had a while back, that I had to go try some more.

I am happy to see I still have people reading up on this blog and I’m sorry to have kept all you loyal readers waiting so long!

I totally recommend subscribing to the RSS feed for Best Wine for Beginners so you get the updates as they happen!

Cheers!

PM Auslese 225x300 Riesling Auslese

More German wines, this time actually from Germany. I have to say, the experience with the California Gewertztraminer has my shying away from any German wine not made in Germany. So tonight we’re hanging out with the ost famous of German wines, Reisling ( Ree-zling) in particular the Auslese class… sounds like a Volkswagen, no? Das 2012 Auslese Class has more leg room und uber power. (it’s Owz-lazuh, like house laser) I’m not German but I play one in my imagination.

A funny thing I noticed about German wines is they all seem to come in blue bottles… well all the Rieslings anyway, I think it’s just to show they come from the Uberland. Ok, so now that I;ve completely alienated and offended my German audience, let’s get to the wine. We have a 2009 Peter Mertes Platinum Auslese Reisling, from the Rheinessen region, $11.99.  The label says Select Harvest Sweet White Wine. I’ll drink to that.

Unlike the majority of Rieslings, this one has a cork rather than a screwcap. Pouring a glass, a bit of a light amber color, deeper yellow than straw color. Take a sniff… whew! It has that same smell as the Moscato I tried… I know how to describe that smell in wine terms… Cat Pee… seriously. Not pleasant. But there is a hint of peach in there. So if you have a peach that a cat has marked as its personal property, yo have the smell of this wine. Well, bottoms up.

Mmmmm, that is good stuff. It’s sweet but not too sweet. I taste some peach, and white wine. It’s a happy little wine, a bit of acidity, but not like the California Gewurtz, man, I could have powered my TV remote off of that stuff. I think the German wines have acid as a general characteristic. It’s a nice light wine, an easy drinker.

I’m pairing this wine with Crosby Stills & Nash Disc one of the Boxed set. “Judy Blue Eyes” really sets this one off.

I left this one in the car for a while and just remembered to chill it at about 7pm. I put it in the freezer to ‘chill’. Well, After we put the little ones to bed I had to do some running around. Three hours later, this wine was chilled alright. It was a good test for the wine temperature thing, So I put my absent mindedness to the test.

The more this wine warmed up the more the flavors opened up and got a bit more body and the alcohol is a bit more pronounced. It still smells like cat piss though. Of the wines I’ve tried so far, Moscato and Sauvignon blanc are the best to drink and smell. Slurping and snorting… that’s what wine is about… oh and getting pissed with class.

A glass in and the acidity is there but not too bad, I don’t need a Mylanta chaser for this one. For a sweet wine, this one has decent alcohol at 10% so you can get classy with this one in short order :p

I highly recommend Reisling for a good night. It’s a good drinking wine, you won’t be disappointed with this one.

Cheers!
